Here at Northeastern Exterminating we know how important it is for our customers to check their homes for bed bugs. We recommend to do an inspection at least once every two weeks. It may seem a little often, but believe us it is more of a nuisance to have a bed bug infestation then to just check your bed once a month. We will provide you below with some tips on how to check your bed for bed bugs, and some other places to look as well. If you have a suspicion you do have bed bugs, It is always a good idea to get a trained professional to perform the bed bug inspection.

Take off your bed sheets and get a flashlight, then read the steps below.
  1. Check along the whole perimeter of your mattresses tubing for anything out of the ordinary. Check for bugs, bed bug eggs, molted shell casings or bed bug excrement. Do this along all sides of mattress, more importantly the under side.
  2. If you have a box spring, check along all side of the box spring with the flashlight. Now get someone to help you lift up the box spring and slowly peel back the mesh on the underside on the box spring. This is a bed bug hot spot. Carefully look for any bed bugs alongside the whole bottom of box spring. If you find it easier you can peel off mesh.
  3. If you have a platform bed we recommend you to remove each individual draw and inspect all sides as well as underneath. Now lift up platform and check underneath platform. Inspect where the wood ends meet each other with your flashlight.
  4. If you have a metal frame, take the frame apart and slowly check all sides for bed bugs. Now turn over and remove metal wheels. Check inside of each wheel, as well as where the wheel attaches into the metal frame.
  5. If you have a night stand near your bed you can remove all draws, check underneath the draws as well as underneath the dresser for any bedbugs.
If you think you may see something that looks like a bed bug or you are not entirely sure what it is, please contact us at 718-336-0634 for any questions. If you send us an email of the insect we will gladly identify it for you. If you have any questions or comments please leave them below.
